The day started with a rousing Happy Birthday, Evan....#15. It was perhaps the most beautiful version I've ever heard!

Our first glimpses of Dresden. Here's the new dome on the Museum of Art.

The Frauenkirche, rebuilt over the last 15 years, reopened in 2008. The black bricks were cataloged over the years from the rubble of the destroyed church and put into place according to the plans from 400 years ago. All the white bricks are new!

The weather was perfect for an al fresco lunch.

This is Lutherland and he's the local hero.

The Frauenkirche is truly a wonder of old engineering capability.

We walked in, sat down, and began to sing. It was 4 minutes of beautiful gospel music. The crowd was awed, as were we, at the beauty of it. People stopped us everywhere after we left and we told our story. The kids took over Dresden, at least for a few hours.

We Just couldn't keep from singing!

Interview by English students in Dresden.

A stroll through the old town.

Dresden's skyline!

Towers and bridges.

The Hofkirche and Gottfried Silbermann organ from the 1600's

We grew to love this old-new Florence on the Elbe.

Hey there! My name is Adam Cook and I'm from Eugene, OR. Herr Cheshire asked me to do this, so here we go.....
The city of Dresden was beautiful, magnificent, gorgeous and other superlative adjectives. We saw lots of fantastic historical buildings that had been restored with great care since the war, but the one that affected me the most was the church we performed in, the Frauenkirche. On the outside of the church was spectacular. It towered over the surrounding buildings, which was pretty amazing, considering the fact they office buildings!
Nothing prepared me for what was inside, however. It would take me days to describe the wonder and absolute awe I felt. Beautifully painted scenes from the bible covered the sides of the balconies and dome. What really got me was the organ and angels everywhere stretching up to heavens. It was over quickly and I wish we could have stayed longer, but we went out and sang again around a statue of Martin Luther. Then we broke into groups and explored Dresden for a while before returning to Mansfeld. It was an awesome day!
